New developments to Commercial Road and the Northern Quarter, previous site of the Tricorn and surrounding area, will create an outstanding retail location offer in the centre of Portsmouth to complement city shopping in Southsea and Gunwharf Quays.
A transformation programme to Portsmouth's city centre is expected to start once the economy picks up, with an estimated £350 million to be spent on the developments.
Whilst the development is currently on hold due to the international economic downturn, a new timetable of works will become available. It is anticipated that a host of new shops, cafes and restaurants will be opening up, along side two new anchor stores; John Lewis and M&S
The development is expected to create many jobs during the construction phase, and further retail related jobs once the scheme is open. A range of training schemes are planned to ensure local people have the right skills to secure these jobs.
