  • electricians                  320
  • bricklayers                   280

So what's the future for the Construction Industry?

Here are a few of the facts that give you an idea of the future of the industry:

  • The 2001 Census showed that there were 6,657 people living in Portsmouth employed in construction trades in April 2001 – that is around 8% of Portsmouth’s workers.  Of these, 3,853 classed themselves as “skilled” workers.
  • Research into local employment trends in the South East has predicted that the number of people employed in construction throughout Hampshire & the Isle of Wight will increase by nearly 17% between 2000 and 2011.  That’s an extra 100 new jobs each year just in Portsmouth, on top of replacing the current construction workers who move away or retire.
  • In the South East, management roles will have the most vacancies with 8,500 roles needing to be filled in the next four years. (South East Construction Skills Network)
